Welcome to the first ever green issue from Portsmouth Magazine. We have been talking about publishing a green issue for over a year now, so this is very exciting for us. I’ve learned there are many more aspects of the Seacoast that are already green, going green, or about to go green, and I hope that you find this issue informative and helpful as you move forward on your own green practices.
I know I am often taunted with my own desires to change every little thing about my life to be green; taunted because the more you read, watch, listen and learn, the more you realize you need to change. The key is to tackle one thing at a time. Take a handful of very easy changes, like your dish soap and your light bulbs and feel good about it – feel GREAT about it. It is true what they say; the small things add up.
I’m looking forward to splurging on some new ‘green’ bedding as soon as possible. Kristyn Lak Miller had a great encounter with The Clean Bedroom who has many designs and styles to suit most tastes. We’re right around the corner from not having to have the heat on (hopefully!) every day, and what better time to do your research about biofuels. Simply Green has gone green by incorporating biofuels into its list of services. This transition is easier than you think it is! And of course, there are the choices you have for your own body. Bottled water, shampoo, clothing, we’ve covered it all. I just might be one of the biggest Aveda fans there is, and I will tell you firsthand, Aveda’s products are worth every penny. Bridgette Springer brings us some information about Solari Salon and Spa (my personal favorite Aveda stop!).
Speaking of changes, I would like to mention a couple here with Portsmouth Magazine.
First off, the green information won’t stop with this issue. We’ll be adding a department to every issue that will focus on green-related issues, businesses, products, events and tips. Next, we’ve taken
out our printed calendar in the magazine and have opted for a Web calendar. This new feature will allow users to enter their own events to be added to our online calendar, with our approval of course! This makes for a much more timely calendar. As always we are making small changes to the magazine to work our way towards ‘greener’ pastures (pun intended).
Embrace your inner green and email me, let me know what you’ve done to change things up a bit. Tell me the unique store or company you’ve found that adds to our list of ‘all things green on the Seacoast.’
